English version<\/strong> – The U.S. Ambassador to Mali, H.E Dennis B. Hankins, bid farewell to the world of Malian biomedical research on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. It was during a ceremony organized by the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an emotional atmosphere\nbefitting these types of farewell meetings, the speeches magnified the human\nand professional qualities of H.E. Mr. Dennis B. Hankins who, for 3 years,\nendeavored to revitalize cooperation between our States, particularly in the\ncontext of biomedical research for the well-being of our populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mali is the third African country, the first\nFrench-speaking country in Africa to benefit from American support for\nbiomedical research. This partnership makes Malian scientists world leaders in\nthe fight against malaria, neglected tropical diseases and other emerging\ninfectious diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Center for Excellence in\nResearch (ICER-Mali), a world-class biomedical research structure, born of a\npartnership in the framework of collaborative biomedical research between the\nUnited States and Mali, is the one of the largest international collaborative\nresearch projects of the US National Institutes of Health. Nowadays, the said\nstructure, which brings together biomedical research programs, including the\nUniversity Center for Clinical Research (UCRC) among others, employs more than\n600 Malians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\nBiosafety Level 3 Laboratory (BSL3), at the University Clinical Research Center\n(UCRC), has supported the response to multiple outbreaks, including the Ebola\noutbreak in West Africa. American scientists from the National Institutes of\nHealth recently trained Malian scientists in the diagnosis of COVID-19. This\nlong partnership has helped Mali put in place an effective response to the\nCOVID -19 pandemic.<\/em> \u201c, indicated the Director of the UCRC, Prof Seydou\nDOUMBIA. He then thanked Ambassador Hankins for choosing ICER-Mali to make his\nfirst and last Malian visits as Ambassador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very moved, His Excellency\nHankins expressed his enthusiasm and his gratitude to the Malian biomedical\nresearchers, for their involvement at his side which allowed the accomplishment\nof the missions of the embassy, one of the most important is to work for the\ninternational influence of Mali, through clinical research. \u201cWhen I was still United States Ambassador to\nGuinea Conakry, I was told that Mali was a reference in terms of biomedical\nresearch in Africa\u2026and once here, I realized it.. .<\/em>,\u201d said H.E. Dennis B.\nHankins, who hopes this performance will continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than three decades,\nAmerican and Malian researchers have been developing human and technological\ncapacities. These local research and innovation capacities have resulted in over\n450 published research articles. After having magnified the excellent relations\nbetween our States, which have allowed training grants to strengthen the\ncapacities of young Malian researchers, the Rector of the USTTB urged H.E.\nHankins to be the Ambassador of Mali to the American government. “Your departure from Mali should not be the\nend of your mission for Mali, we are still counting on you, for the future of\nscientific and biomedical research..<\/em>.”, launched Prof Ouat\u00e9ni DIALLO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This ceremony ended with the\nexchange of good wishes and the handing over of various gifts. We hope that his\nsuccessor will work pragmatically to strengthen and develop the various axes of\nthe partnership, particularly in the context of biomedical research and many\nother areas of socio-economic life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Version fran\u00e7aise-<\/strong>L\u2019ambassadeur des Etats-Unis d\u2019Am\u00e9rique au Mali, S.E Dennis B. Hankins, a fait ses adieux au monde de recherche biom\u00e9dicale malien, le mercredi 21 septembre 2022. C\u2019\u00e9tait \u00e0 l\u2019occasion d\u2019une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie que lui a accord\u00e9e l\u2019Universit\u00e9 des Sciences, des Techniques et des Technologies de Bamako (USTTB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans une\natmosph\u00e8re charg\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9motion qui sied \u00e0 ses genres de rencontres de\nremerciement et d\u2019adieux, les discours ont clam\u00e9 les qualit\u00e9s humaines et\nprofessionnelles de S.E.M. Dennis B. Hankins qui, durant 3 ans s\u2019est attach\u00e9e \u00e0\nredynamiser la coop\u00e9ration entre nos Etats, particuli\u00e8rement dans le cadre de\nla recherche biom\u00e9dicale pour le bien-\u00eatre de nos populations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Mali\nest le troisi\u00e8me pays africain, premier pays francophone d\u2019Afrique, \u00e0\nb\u00e9n\u00e9ficier du soutien am\u00e9ricain dans le cadre de la recherche biom\u00e9dicale. Ce\npartenariat fait les scientifiques maliens, leaders mondiaux dans la lutte\ncontre le paludisme, les maladies tropicales n\u00e9glig\u00e9es et d\u2019autres maladies\ninfectieuses \u00e9mergentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Centre\nInternational pour l\u2019Excellence dans la Recherche (ICER-Mali), une structure de\nrecherche biom\u00e9dicale de classe mondiale, n\u00e9e d\u2019un partenariat dans le cadre de\nla recherche biom\u00e9dicale collaborative entre les \u00c9tats-Unis et le Mali, est l\u2019un\ndes plus grands projets internationaux de collaboration de recherche des\nInstituts Nationaux de Sant\u00e9 des \u00c9tats-Unis. De nos jours, ladite structure qui\nregroupe des Centres de recherche biom\u00e9dicale, dont le Centre Universitaire de\nRecherche Clinique (UCRC) entre autres, emploie plus de 600 Maliens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab <\/strong>Le laboratoire de bios\u00e9curit\u00e9 de niveau 3 (BSL3), du\ncentre Universitaire de Recherche Clinique (UCRC), a soutenu la riposte \u00e0 de\nmultiples flamb\u00e9es, y compris l\u2019\u00e9pid\u00e9mie de virus Ebola en Afrique de l\u2019Ouest.\nDes scientifiques am\u00e9ricains des National Institutes of Health ont r\u00e9cemment\nform\u00e9 des scientifiques maliens au diagnostic du COVID-19. Ce long partenariat\na aid\u00e9 le Mali \u00e0 mettre en place une r\u00e9ponse efficace \u00e0 la pand\u00e9mie COVID -19<\/em>. \u00bb,\n<\/strong>a indiqu\u00e9 le Directeur de l\u2019UCRC, Pr Seydou DOUMBIA. Il\na ensuite remerci\u00e9 l\u2019Ambassadeur Hankins pour avoir choisi ICER-Mali d\u2019effectuer\nses premi\u00e8re et derni\u00e8re visites maliennes en tant qu\u2019ambassadeur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tr\u00e8s \u00e9mu,\nSon Excellence Hankins a exprim\u00e9 son enthousiasme et sa gratitude aux\nchercheurs biom\u00e9dicaux maliens, pour leurs implications \u00e0 ses c\u00f4t\u00e9s qui ont\npermis l\u2019accomplissement des missions de l\u2019ambassade dont l\u2019une des plus\nimportantes est d\u2019\u0153uvrer au rayonnement international accru du Mali, \u00e0 travers\nla recherche clinique. \u00ab Lorsque j\u2019\u00e9tais\nencore Ambassadeur des Etats-Unis en Guin\u00e9e Conakry, on m\u2019a fait savoir que le\nMali \u00e9tait une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence en mati\u00e8re de la recherche biom\u00e9dicale en Afrique\u2026 et\nune fois sur place, je m\u2019en suis rendu compte..\u00bb, a signal\u00e9 <\/em>S.E Dennis B.\nHankins qui esp\u00e8re que cette performance va se poursuivre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depuis\nplus de trois d\u00e9cennies, des chercheurs am\u00e9ricains et maliens d\u00e9veloppent les\ncapacit\u00e9s humaines et technologiques. Ces capacit\u00e9s locales de recherche et\nd\u2019innovation ont, selon nos t\u00e9moins, donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 plus de 450 articles de\nrecherche publi\u00e9s. Apr\u00e8s avoir magnifi\u00e9 l\u2019excellence des relations entre nos\nEtats, qui ont valu les bourses de formation pour renforcer les capacit\u00e9s des\njeunes chercheurs maliens, le Recteur de l\u2019USTTB a exhort\u00e9 S.E. Hankins \u00e0 \u00eatre\nl\u2019ambassadeur du Mali aupr\u00e8s du gouvernement Am\u00e9ricain. \u00ab Votre d\u00e9part du Mali,\nne doit \u00eatre la fin de votre mission pour le Mali, nous comptons encore sur\nvous, pour l\u2019avenir de la recherche scientifique et biom\u00e9dicale\u2026 \u00bb, a lanc\u00e9 Pr\nOuat\u00e9ni DIALLO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette c\u00e9r\u00e9monie a pris fin sur les \u00e9changes de bons v\u0153ux et les remises de cadeaux divers. Esp\u00e9rons que son successeur travaillera de mani\u00e8re pragmatique au raffermissement et au d\u00e9veloppement des diff\u00e9rents axes du partenariat, notamment dans le cadre de la recherche biom\u00e9dicale et bien d\u2019autres domaines de la vie socio-\u00e9conomique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
