The\nWest African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), under\nits Wellcome Trust\/AESA DELTAS programme, held the 4th in its series of the\nBioethics workshops on responsible research conduct designed for postdoctoral\nfellows and institutional IRB coordinators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nyear’s training workshop, to which 23 participants took part, from 22 to 26\nApril 2019, was organised by the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC) of\nthe University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB). Il\ntook place at the Onomo hotel  in Bamako,\nand has been facilitated by three Bioethics lecturers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These\ninclude: Prof. Mahamadou Diakite, Professor of Immunogenetics at the University\nof Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, Mali, Dr. Paul Ndebele PhD\nOffice of Research Excellence Milken Institute School of Public Health George\nWashington University and Dr Morenike Oluwatoyin Ukpong, College of Health\nSciences Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several\ntopics were discussed during the 5 days of training, among which we can mention\n: Anatomy ans physiology of a research protocol, responsabilities in health\nresearch, research ethics commitees and their functions,  ethical issues in social and behavioural\nresearch, informed consent, etc. During his presentation, Dr. Paul has defined\nethics as principles of morality dealing with right or wrong of an action,\nScience of the study of ideal human behavior\u2026.He then recalled that ethics was\nnot law and yet they were complimentary, \u00ab ethics can be proposed but cannot be\nimposed \u00bb, according to him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nclosing ceremony of five days training was marked by several internventions.\nFor Blessing Adigun, partipant from Uganda, without ethics there is no\nresearch, that is to say how important this training was. \u00ab I\u2019m excited,\nbecause i learned a lot, i pray that God keep bringing sponsors for those king\nof training. Thanks for the opportunity \u00bb, she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof.\nDiakit\u00e9 thanked the trainers for the quality of the courses offered, and\ncongratulated the participants for their attendance. \u00ab Trainers and trainees,\nwe are now a consortium and we have to make this network dynamic.. \u00bb, he\nsaid.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note\nthat the handing over of the certificates to the participants and the taking of\nfamily photos, have ended the five days training on the Bioethics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
