Even the most advanced science will fail if it ignores the culture of those it aims to heal. In response to diseases that hinder our development, community engagement has become researchers\u2019 secret weapon. On the ground, the white coats stand back, giving way to community leaders. They are the \u201cinterfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201d Their role? To translate clinical protocols into acceptable realities and serve as a bridge by ensuring transparent communication with the communities. Before opening a research site, dialogue is initiated through formative research. This qualitative step acts as the team’s compass: it identifies local decision-makers and paves the way for informed consent. Science is not just about gathering data and leaving. Social accountability activities close the loop. They enable communities to reap the benefits of discoveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
