Dr Magaran Monzon Bagayoko is from the first generation of the researchers trained by the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC), since it\u2019s opening in 1991. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He began his career as an entomologist at the MRTC in 1991 in the laboratory of Prof. Yaya Toure, then Head of Unit of the Geographical Information System (GIS) and Telemanagement at the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC), FMPOS before joining the WHO in Gabon since 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At WHO he held several positions as Environmental Health Advisor and then Team Leader of the Public Health and Environment Program (PHE) at the WHO Regional Office for Africa until his recent appointment as a WHO representative in Gabon. Dr. Bagayoko holds a Master&#8217;s degree in Biology (1988), a Ph.D in Parasitology-Entomology at ISFRA Bamako (2000) and has completed post-doc training in Environmental Epidemiology University of Greenwich, United Kingdom (2002).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has completed several courses in Geographic Information System (GIS), Spatial Analysis and Risk Modeling of Communicable Diseases at NASA (USA) in 1998, at the Medical Research Council, University of Durban, South Africa (2198) and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Health, Liverpool, UK (1999). He also holds certificates in epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University (USA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This nomination honors our country and especially our universities and research centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose\nof the Position<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WHO\nCountry Representative serves as the Chief of the Mission and accredited\nRepresentative of the WHO Director General and the Regional Director. The\nRepresentative is responsible for establishing dialogue with the government to\ndevelop the framework of cooperation in the country. She\/he is expected to work\nclosely and collaboratively with the national authorities, institutions,\nstakeholders and partners, to provide upstream policy support and policy\ndialogue on the national health system and national health and development\nagenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Depending on the country contexts, she\/he\nprovides strategic support, technical assistance and direct operational support\nto the country of her\/his assignment. She\/he develops the WHO Country Cooperation\nStrategy in support of WHO&#8217;s and national and international development efforts\nto implement the national health policies, strategies and plans towards\nachievement of the Universal Health Coverage where everyone can lead healthy\nand productive lives, regardless of who they are or where they live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;As Head of the Country Office, the\nRepresentative is responsible for directing and guiding often large and complex\nprograms and operations supporting the country office programs, providing\nleadership and vision to the WHO country programme team in managing and\nleveraging resources for the achievement of results. The Representative directs\nand oversees the various program sectors and operational service teams ensuring\ndelivery of quality results in accordance with the WHO Global Program of Work,\npolicies, strategies, standards of performance and accountability framework,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\nrepresentative of the Director General and Regional Director, the WR manages\nWHO core functions at country level and provides leadership in the following\nkey functional areas: Advocacy, Partnership and Representation, Policy\nDevelopment and Technical Cooperation, and Administration and Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ucrc-mali.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/CV-Dr-Bagayoko-version-corrig\u00e9e-002.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Magaran Monzon Bagayoko has been appointed as the WHO Representative to Gabon.\u00a0 He is from Mali and he was formerly acting Director, Communicable Diseases Cluster, AFRO.
