HLA is important in\nthe immune response especially against tuberculosis infection. Here we study\nthe association of HLA polymorphism and susceptibility to TB infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Methods<\/strong>: Subjects were\nrecuited from health centers in Mali : 40 adults with pulmonary active TB and\n20 healthy volunteers Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex isolates were\nspoligotyped to determine TB groups ( M. tuberculosis sensu stricto (N=20) and\nM. africanum (N = 20)]. HLA (I and Il) was genotyped from PBMC-extracted DNA in\nparticipants by SSP-PCR on polymorphic regions of HLA genes and their\nfrequencies were compared between TB groups and healthy subjects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Results:<\/strong> HLA-B alleles (B*<em>07:02, B*<\/em>08:01,B*<em>14:02. B*<\/em>15:03, B*<em>15:10, B*<\/em>18:01,\nB*<em>42:01, B*42.02, B*<\/em>51:01 and B*<em>81:01) were significantly prevalent in the\ngroup infected with M. africanum (40-45%) and M. tuberculosis (75%) compared to\nhealthy controls. Some HLA- A (A*02:05, A*34:02, A*<\/em>66:01 and A*<em>68:02) and DRB1*<\/em>03:01 alleles were\nassociated with both tuberculosis groups (65-70%). Also, several HLA-DR\nvariants were associated with M. tuberculosis sensu stricto and not with M.\nafricanum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Discussion and conclusion<\/strong>: We found\nthat HLA-A and HLA-B specific alleles are more common in individuals with\ntuberculosis compared to healthy controls.
