After more than three years of intense diplomatic activity and an unwavering commitment to the development of research in Mali, the Ambassador of the United States of America, Her Excellency Rachna Korhonen, officially completed her mission in Bamako at the end of August 2026. To mark this departure and salute the exceptional quality of bilateral cooperation, a senior university delegation visited the American diplomat this Tuesday, September 1, 2026. This act of recognition was led by the Rector of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), Professor Mahamadou Diakité, accompanied for the occasion by the Director of the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC), Professor Seydou Doumbia.
A vibrant tribute to major scientific support
This farewell visit was an opportunity for university officials to express their deep gratitude to Ambassador Korhonen. During her mandate, the diplomat personally invested herself in boosting scientific research in general, and biomedical research in particular, a key sector for public health in Mali. Thanks to the constant support of the United States and the vision shared by HE Rachna Korhonen, institutions like USTTB and UCRC were able to consolidate strategic partnerships, thereby strengthening the capacities of Malian researchers in the face of contemporary health challenges.

As a sign of high esteem and to keep the memory of this fruitful partnership alive, Rector Mahamadou Diakité and Professor Seydou Doumbia officially presented gifts to the Ambassador. These gifts, authentic symbols of Malian culture and hospitality, embody the gratitude of an entire scientific community for her sustainable actions on the ground. Leaving Bamako, HE Rachna Korhonen leaves behind the memory of an active, pragmatic diplomacy resolutely focused on human and scientific progress in Mali.
